Today was my first day working at ECPAT International. My task is to assist in the Combating Child Trafficking and Child Sex Tourism programmes. The international HQ of ECPAT are based in Bangkok, Thailand. However, cases of child trafficking and child sex tourism are emerging all over the world.
In an effort to stop sex trafficking of children and young people, ECPAT International started a collaboration with The Body Shop in 2009, with the aim of raising awareness and vital funds for victims or those at risk of trafficking. The Body Shop launched the Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream – proceeds of each tube of hand cream sold are donated to ECPAT and other organisations that support victims of trafficking and help to fund prevention programmes.
Also part of the anti-trafficking campaign is the petition that over 6 million people around the world have signed so far. But, the end is not yet in sight. While the petitions are being handed over to individual governments, the aim is to present the final petition to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva in September 2011. If you have not done so yet, please sign the petition online by clicking here.
There is a lot to be done for the Combating Child Trafficking and Child Sex Tourism programmes. I am happy to be part of this amazing organisation and I look forward to working together towards ending the sexual exploitation of children around the world.
