While I recently wrote about ten things I love and ten things I hate about Thailand, there are also some ‘things’ that I miss while being in Thailand…
- My friends, family and perhaps most of all: my beagle Luca..
- Bicycles! Biking on the road in Bangkok would basically mean killing yourself,
especially for an outsider like me, so that’s a no-go. It may also be a little too hot to be biking around… In connection to this, I miss biking lanes and smooth pedestrian walkways (or just pavements without loose tiles and random gaps would be nice) - Animal shelters. With all those stray dogs and cats, I am almost tempted to house them myself – although my rental contract prohibits me from doing so…
- Vegetarian-friendly labelling on food packaging. Actually, English-language food labels – Thai is so hard to read!
- Six-packs of 1.5 liter Coca Cola Light bottles. They only have cans, not even 0.5 liter bottles…
- Rachel’s Organic Low Fat Vanilla Yogurt. I’ve been missing this since 2009 actually, since I haven’t been able to find it anywhere outside of the UK.
- Great chocolate and cheese for a decent price.
- Late night summer sunsets. Having dinner and drinks on a cafe terrace while the sun is slowly setting around 8 pm – I miss that kind of fun and chillaxation!
- Wearing jeans. It’s too hot to wear jeans, but I still love them…
- Official Apple Stores. Now my MacBook is about to die – it has been having failures more frequently for the past few months, it’s like a computer cancer…! – I am very worried about this. In the UK, Apple Store replaced my harddrive, keyboard, anything without extra cost even though the official warranty was expired. I am pretty sure this kind (of) service will be hard, if not impossible, to find in Bangkok…
there are some absolutely excellent animal shelters/ spay/ neuter centers. OK, one. Soi Dog and Cat…well worth supporting!
Thanks for the tip! I actually came across them, they seem to do great work and I would love to volunteer with them. There is still a lack of shelters though… There should be far more of these!
