Something different: Lupus

Lupus. I must confess I had never heard of lupus before until my friend told me about it.
A few years ago, she told me that her sister is ill – she suffers from an extreme case of Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease whereby the immune system is overactive and attacks the body and body systems, including joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, lungs and even the heart. Since they didn’t have the knowledge and expertise in the Netherlands, she needed to travel abroad repeatedly in order to get medical treatment. And even that wasn’t a guarantee it would get better because although effective medical treatment exists, there is no cure for lupus. For decades, she has been living with this disease: the pain, flares that could kill her, chemo treatment, paralysis. Every day is a struggle and every step is a victory.

This incredibly strong and brave woman has set up the Plum Blossom Foundation to raise awareness on this disease and she has created this moving, honest and beautiful movie:

Please watch this and share this with your family and friends to raise awareness on Lupus. Support Ida by visiting the Plum Blossom Foundation website.

    1. Hi, thanks for your comment. I hope all is well with you and I hope my friend’s words and initiatives helped you deal with Lupus. Last year, my friend changed her diet and lifestyle completely and the result is that she is much healthier and has been off meds for the past 9 months, for the first time in 12 years! If you have a minute, please read my newest blog post about this and read about her aim to make another movie to raise awareness on the importance of healthy diets and their positive effects on Lupus and other chronic health challenges. Help her help others like you. Thank you and wishing you all the best!
